    Brief description of the programme/project/Initiative :

    Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) are community health workers instituted by the Government of India\’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) as part of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). ASHAs are local women trained to act as health educators and promoters in their communities. Their tasks include motivating women to give birth in hospitals, bringing children to immunization clinics, encouraging family planning (i.e. surgical sterilization), treating basic illness and injury with first aid, keeping demographic records, and improving village sanitation. ASHAs are also meant to serve as a key communication mechanism between the healthcare system and rural population. Individuals must meet the criteria as defined in the ASHA scheme for selection as ASHA worker in Tribal & Non- Tribal areas Tribal Area- Requirements 1.One ASHA per 1000 population 2.ASHA is primary resident of village with formal education up to class 8th in Tribal area 3.Age is between 20-45 years 4. She is married Tribal Area-Selection process 1.Gramsabha or VHNSC recommends five names of suitable candidates to Taluka Health Officer 2.Taluka Health Officer (THO) selects one ASHA amongst the recommended candidates 3. THO issues letter of appointment to the selected ASHA Non-Tribal Area- Requirements 1.One ASHA per 1500 population 2.ASHA is primary resident of village with formal education up to class 10th in Non-Tribal area 3.Age is between 25-45 years 4.She is married

    Why was the project started :

    It is proposed that an application must be developed to support the recording of transactions carried out by the ASHA workers. The objectives of such an application are to: • Build a comprehensive database of all registered ASHA workers in the State • Track the training details of ASHA workers • Track the recruitment details of ASHA workers • Maintain and assess the performance (both physical and financial) of ASHA workers • Generate pertinent MIS reports at various levels of authority ASHA workers have an integral role to play in the implementation of various health programmes executed in the state. It is therefore of paramount importance to record and track the training details, recruitment details and performance details of the ASHAs and review their overall contribution in the various health programmes. Several officers at various levels of authority such as the Block Medical Officer, Taluka Health Officer, District Community Mobilizers, NRHM Program Officers and NRHM Directors to name a few can undertake periodic reviews with the help of the proposed application.
